Creationism vs Evolution

So here we have two camps- the creationists and the evolutionists- both armed to the teeth and ready to martyr themselves for the cause.

If the creational paradigm is ultimately true, is the evolutionary model by definition false? Absolutely not! There is space for both cosmologies in God’s vast universe.

For “proof”, let us turn to scripture itself.

We learn in Genesis, that the earth was created in six days. In Hebrew the word Yom is commonly translated to “day”. To the literalist, God created the earth and heavens in 144 hours. Preposterous? Indeed!

First of all, it was not until the “fourth day” (Yom R’vie) that the sun was formed and we first have the demarcation of day and night and a means of measurement “to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:” [Gen 1:14].

So it was not until close to 70% of creation was consummated that we have a means of measuring units of time. Evidently “days” 1-3 are not 72 hrs but the first three “stages” or “eras” – a mistranslation of our own doing. Yom 1-3 at least could conceivably each be stages of millions to billions of “days”

“And the Lord formed man of the dust of the ground,..” [Gen 2:7] No spontaneous combustion here, but rather a process of formation. God’s processes are not limited to our preconceived notions of time and space. Man/Adam existed in some other form before this process was completed- a “lesser” form of similar composition.

I’m no Muslim, but the Koran seems to have eerily predicted our present predicament some 1,500 years ago.

“We created the heavens and the earth , and what between them is, in six days, and no weariness touched us.” [I:36]

“What ails you, that you not look for the majesty in God, seeing that He created you in stages? Have you not regarded how God created seven heavens one upon another, and set the moon therein for a light and the sun for a lamp? And God caused you to grow out of the earth”,.... [LXXI:15]

“....and surely a day with the Lord is a thousand years in your counting.” [XII:48]

“And He originated the creation of man out of clay, then He fashioned his progeny of an extraction of mean water, and He shaped him, and breathed his spirit in him.”[XXXII:5]

What ails you indeed! The earth and everything in it was “formed” by God over many ages in six distinct stages out of preexisting (natural) stuff- neocons included.

Creationism? Yes! Evolution? Definitely! Intelligent Design? Huh?

Creative Evolution?- I can buy that.

With God, anything’s possible.
